Federal Tax status update [Jan. 6th, 2009|01:36 pm]
Non-Profit formation

Since we are not a private foundation, and we don't bring in more than $5000 gross in a fiscal year, we don't have to apply for 501(c)(3) status until we make more than $5000. This is joyous. I now don't have to worry about that application, unless we get more than $5000 in donations in a year. But if that happens we can afford the application fee, and we would have until the end of march the following year to have the forms filed. I AM HAPPY.

Additionally, the state taxes have been filed, we owe $0.00. And, I have sent out the state application to renew the non-profit license.

More Information [Sep. 24th, 2008|12:45 pm]
Non-Profit formation

I just received two copies of the Washington State Wetlands Identification and Delineation Manual published by the Washington State Department of Ecology in March of 1997. There are some newer updates that haven't been finalized yet. They are still in the test phase. I have PDF copies of the updated regulations on Christina's Computer, and can print them out when needed.

Next steps [Nov. 14th, 2007|12:10 pm]
Non-Profit formation

I would like to start on the business plan. I understand that it will take some time, and more than one meeting, but it needs to be done before I can turn in the paperwork. I will also need some information from everyone so it can be put on applications. That will be discussed at the next meeting though.

Also, there is some good news regarding the paperwork. Our applications will need to be submitted in the following order:

Washington State application to form a nonprofit corporation ($30.00)
Federal application to receive an Employer Identification Number, EIN (Free, instant online)
Washington State application to register as a charitable organization ($20.00)
Federal application for recognition of 501(c)(#) status ($750.00)

They have to be done in the order above, and the next one can't be done until the one before has been approved.

This being said I would like to have the next meeting this Saturday afternoon if everyone is available. I will be calling people over the next couple of days to try to set this up.

Below the cut is our organization statement. I didn't cut the mission statement because it was short, this one is two pages typed. Just as before, this is so far, let me know if there are any changes that need to be made.

May I suggest we try dealing with the writing of the documents here. Doing so may allow us to focus, to independently create ideas and assist in refining the work as a group. Pigeon92, can you post a list/outline of what needs writing?

Found more fees [Oct. 22nd, 2007|04:17 pm]
Non-Profit formation

I've been trying to find the fees for the 501(3)c tax exempt status forms from the IRS. I finally found them. They charge $300 if you are expecting to make less than $10,000 per year in donations and grants, and $750 if you are expecting to make more than $10,000 per year. That per year does not deduct employee salaries or asset acquisition, that is a total not a left over. This means that if we want any compensated employees we need to either pay less than minimum wage or we need a $750 application fee.

Update [Oct. 22nd, 2007|11:10 am]
Non-Profit formation

I will be filling out the forms for the non-profit. As of right now, we have a consensus of Washington Wetlands Association (WWA) for the name. I will be leaving the name off the applications until the end of the week to allow for rebuttal of this name proposal. Please provide a full rebuttal, not just "I don't like it".

Those who are currently in favor of Washington Wetlands Association are:

If any of the above change their minds, or anyone not listed decides, this will be edited to include or remove that name. We currently have a majority for the name, so unless there is changes in favor, or a valid rebuttal, that is the name we will be using.

On another Note:
The total state application fees will come to $50.00, and I don't have the ability to cover that cost entirely by myself. If others could contribute some money to cover this costs, contact me to let me know. Once the $50.00 is gotten together, I will sign, date and send out the applications.
